Biotech Case Study: Technology Transfer
The Client
The client, an early stage, venture backed diagnostic company, had in-licensed an emerging technology from a major university. They had secured early funding; however, further proof-of-principle data was required for them to receive additional funding beyond the seed round.
Technical Need
The in-licensed technology was an ELISA based diagnostic kit. Additional research was required across a broad range of instrumentation to further develop the product and to confirm their proof–of-principle. Because the company was early stage and funding was limited, it was strategic for them to partner with the right laboratory facility for these services.
Cambridge Biomedical's Service
We worked with the client to determine that proof-of-principle data was necessary for technical validation and the requirements of the venture (and financial) community. Using client input, we successfully transferred the technology to our laboratories and then developed the requisite experiments to demonstrate the technical feasibility and applicability of the test. Utilizing our broad network of collaborators, we introduced the client to additional resources, including regulatory affairs, manufacturing and clinical trial design, which advanced the project beyond what was identified as our initial role.
Results
The Technology Transfer, assay development and laboratory experimentation conducted at and in collaboration with Cambridge Biomedical enabled the client to generate proof-of-principle data and successfully secure a second round of financing exceeding $6.M.
